Duplicate Documents Folders

Under Documents & Settings, I have a folder in my name with a My Documents
folder inside it. Then, below the E drive, Control Panel folder, & Shared
Documents folder is another Documents folder in my name duplicating the
documents in the My Documents folder. Each folder is about 2.5 GB, so I have
5 GB of documents when all I want is one documents folder. Why do I have the
second documents folder, & can I get rid of it?

that's always the case - unless you've moved your profile both are shortcuts
are to the same folder

The real "My Documents" folder resides in %userprofile%\My Documents folder.
Others are links (pointers) to that location. These are not duplicates.

The real one is under \Documents and settings, the other is just an
alternate view of it.

Just different way to get there, depending upon where you are in the system
when you do so. The contained information "is NOT" doubled, unless you
physically copied your "My Documents" folder to another location.

Leave things alone. It is fine the way it is!

YOU HAVE IT BECAUSE FOLDER PERMISSIONS ARE SET TO INHERIT PERMISSIONS
FROM PARENT DIRECTORY FOLDERS. YOU CAN PREVENT THIS BY RIGHT CLICKING ON
EVERY NAME IN THE DOCS AND SETTINGS FOLDER (APART FROM DUPLICATE
FOLDERS) SELECT PROPERTIES AND UNDER THR PERMISSIONS TAB UNCHECK BOX
THAT SAYS INHERIT PERMISSIONS FROM PARENT FOLDER. CLICK APPLY, OK THEN
DELETE ALL DUPLICATE FOLDERS IN DOCS AND SETTINGS.

Mr. Gething - Shouting does not make your erroneous information correct.
Read the relies to this post by Ramesh, Mr. Sengupta and Mr. Urban for
