Hi,

I have a program setup that is over 1GB that it was on a DVD. Now I copied
it on the HD and i would like to copy it on 2 normal CDs so I can install it
on my laptop because the laptop do not have a DVD drive.

My question is if there is a software doing this thing or not?

Thanks in advance!

zip the files, you can then span disks with the registered version of
winzip.

share your dvd drive on the main computer and install over the network?

Hi Alan,

Please correct me if I'm wrong...

What I'm going to do is opening the 1GB setup in winzip and splitting into 2
files (520mb each), copying these 2 files on 2 cds, insert these 2 cds into
the laptop and copying these 2 files on the laptop and then open these 2
files in winzip to a whole 1GB setup again! Is that how it works? It seems a
very good idea!

Network your two computers and copy directly.

Ok, I will check this network thing out as well! Cause I really don't know
what is it.

Look on the winzip site for details about spanned files. Only the
registered program can do this air. There may be other compression files
that can do this- there are several zip programs and other archive formats
too. Some may be free so do some research.
A quick search on the web brought up the following:
http://www.doc.xceedsoft.com/Doc/ZipCompL/sources/Spanned_zip_files.htm
looking on winzips site:
http://www.winzip.com/xspan.htm

Try a web search to see what you turn up.

I've used winzip for this in the past succesfully.

Hi Alan,

I found this program called 'G Split' downloaded from:
http://www.gdgsoft.com/gsplit/. It works great and exactly what I needed!

Thanks for the idea.

Networking is a good option.

An external hard drive is another. I use a firewire 80GB for various files
that are too large for CD, or just don't want to be bothered with burning.
In your case, I would simply copy the files/folders to either the root or to
another folder of the external hard drive.

As for burning the file from DVD to two CDs, it can be done if the largest
file does not exceed the capacity of your CD. Whether the install from 2
CDs works depends on how picky the setup is, and, if you put the files in
proper order that the setup is looking to see. So, the two former options
are probably going to give alot less trouble.
