I recently installed some music recording software that tried to configure my
ASIO system and failed. Now whenever I start the computer, the ASIO test
opens automatically, as does an uninstall for the recording software. Where
can I change this setting, so that my system will just live with this
incompatibility rather than trying to fix itself on start-up everytime?

You can check the Startup folder in the Start, Programs. If it's there just
right click it and delete it.

If not, you will need to check your registry for it. Usually located in the
Run key in the left hand pane. Just do a search on RunOnce and look for Run
just above RunOnce. Delete only the entry that's causing this problem on the
right hand side.
