Administrator permissions problem

Although I have an admin account for the network domain I am not able to
change a computer name without first removing the computer from the domain
and joining a workgroup. Is changing a computer name a specific permission
that the network administrator can grant to my account? Also, since I've
been removing and then rejoining computers to the domain I hit the limit on
the number of times I can join a computer to a domain. Where is this number
defined, and reset? Thanks!
You can change the name, but it requires access to both the local computer
AND the AD Computers MMC on a domain controller. In the end, it is much
easier to remove (thus deleting the AD object record) then re-adding.
Never heard of such a limit.

What i do at work is log on as Local Administrator (not on the domain) and
then change the name. It then asks for a Username and Password for the
domain (i have permissions to do this), and then tells me to restart the
computer
Just remember to change the log in using: combo box back to your domain so
anyone else that trys to use it doesn't get confused (happens alot at a
primary school)

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I have a number of computers requiring a name
change so it will help a lot if I can reduce the number of restarts.

Thanks for the reply, but could you explain this in a little more detail?
Regarding the "limit", the message was:
"you have exceeded the maximum number of computer accounts you are allowed
to create in this domain"
