Hep me! XP is hung up

OK, now the laptop is hung up.... so I'm sending this from
the old standby PeeCee that has never given me a minute of
trouble with 98SE....
The problem .... Laptop has XP Home Version on it. I was
copying some files from a CD to the hard drive and hit
cancel during the copying. The thing hung up and doesn't
respond to any keys or mouse, including Control-Alt-Delete,
or the power switch. Short of yanking out the battery, is
there any way to de-hang this thing?
Some more info.... The laptop is basically used for word
processing and is not connected to the internet or fancied
up with any programs other than Office 97. Has 256 RAM and
over 1GB hard drive space. Worked fine for months until a
few minutes ago...
Many thanks in advance!

Hi,
You can force the machine to shut down by pressing the power button for 5 seconds.
