Medion 8383 512 mb RAM 250 Gb HD. XP.

Problem started when I discovered alt.binaries.dvd and tried downloading all
the headers. It froze/ran out of memory or something.

Npw its happening within a few minutes of getting surfing.

Any software available to run any tests?

Is your computer 100% virus and malware-free? Can you get into Safe Mode
to scan? Please post back with what antivirus you have installed (name,
version, and whether the definitions are current) and what antispyware
tools you have used, if any.

I run adaware professional weekly and spybot and have Norton Anti Virus
2005.

I ran a few things in Win speedup yesterday and it may have stopped but I
haven't stayed on for more than 10 mins to be sure.

Before I did this yesterday, it was freezing up just when left on its own
with a screensaver running.

RAM testing: http://www.memtest86.com/

PSU delivering enough power?

What about temperatures?
You may use Everest for checking:

What about virtual memory size?
See Control Panel > System > Advanced > Advanced...

I've been waiting 6 weeks for the Medionb man to come. Fan runs at 1450 revs
constantly, so temp is high.

It hasn't happened again though since running a few bits of winspeed.

Have recently upped virtual memory from 768 to 3000.
