If I have a computer that I use for work but would like to allow the kids to
use some of the hard drive for storage. Without a domain whats the best way
to allow them to do that? It seems that they can now just go whereever they
want?

Greetings.
If I understand correctly, the kids have network access to your work
computer from their own computer? Assuming that the networking is already
working, which sounds like it, you can create as many folders as you'd like
on your work computer and give it a share status. By right clicking on the
folder(s) that you created, you set the permission by going to Sharing and
Security. I would suggest creating the folder(s) in the root directory
(just under the C drive) as the help file I'm reading says it won't work if
the folder is located under the Documents & Settings folder, the Windows
folder, or within any other user profile. Now why can they see everything
right now without you setting it up as sharing?? I don't know. I am only
reading up on it for the first time in order to try to help you.
Disclaimer: I have not experienced this event nor have I taken any formal
instructions.

Kevin

You set up user accounts. And you have to be formatted NTFS and remove
permissions from the accounts they use for folders you do not want them
access to..

I can Create the shares with no problems but if I don't have "everyone" set
in the permissions section under sharing no one can access the share.
When I am on another computer and try to access it I get a Dialog box
that want me to log on but the use name is grayed out and has
"mycomputername\guest" and wants a password. the problem is the guest
account is disabled. How do I put my username or the kids user names in
that box? Can I force the computer to ask for logon information?
