Maximization doesn't fill the window

When i click the maximize button on the right corner of my MS Word window,
the wondow does not go to the top edge of the screen, it leaves a gap.

It's hard to describe the size of the gap, but it looks like about the size
of the windows taskbar. might be a bit smaller.

If i click and drag the window larger, i can get it to fill the screen. I
can also get it to fill the screen if I have only the one window open and
tell it to tile the windows.

Any suggestions on why this is happening?
