I have a sysytem which is running slow , infact very slow . I have a doubt
that the system may crash any time .I also suspect that my system is infected
with some kind of a virus or a worm.So many tmes i have tried to do a system
back up, but the problem is that i have no idea how to do that. A bit of help
here is appreciable.

if you think you have an infection then a backup will still contain the
infection, you need to do a system clean first, use spybot, adaware etc you
will find full instructions on syscleaning here

Why would you want to back up an infected system? If you back up an
infected system, then restore from that infected backup, you'll have (insert
dramatic drum roll here) an infected system!
You do not deal with viruses, worms, spyware, adware and trojans by backing
up, deleting and restoring from the infected backup.
You must use tools to prevent infection.
1. Reputable antivirus software, which is kept updated.
2. reputable firewall software (*NOT* the firewall included with SP2), also
kept updated.
3. SP2 is installed.
4. Adaware, updated, run once weekly
5. Spybot Search and Destroy, updated, run once weekly.
6. Online Virus scan from vendor other than installed Antivirus software,
run twice a month.
Unless you are willing to do all of the above, you should not be connecting
to the internet. If you are not doing all of the above, you are not only a
threat to your self, but a threat to everyone else on the Internet, because
your computer, once infected, will be searching for other computers to
infect. Everyone in your email address book is in danger of being infected
by your computer.
In closing, I would like to once again state that wiping a drive is not a
valid way to deal with malware and/or viruses. You must be proactive and
stop the threat before it reaches your computer. Are you doing routine
housekeeping chores on your computer, emptying Temporary folders, Temporary
Internet files, running disk check on a regular basis, and defragging your
drive on a regular basis? If you are not doing these things, they will also
slow your computer down dramatically over time.
