Reading CD in Win 98

I wrote files to a CD using Windows XP Pro, but a system with Windows 98 does
not seem to recognize the CD. Is there a compatibility problem with this?
And is there any way to get around it?

Where you using a rewritable CD? Did you close the session before
placing the disk in a computer other than the one in which it was created?

Yes, it is an RW CD. It went through the process to write the files and then
forced the CD drive open. I didn't notice any other way to "close the
session".

Just re-read this. To clarify: The process, when complete, forced the CD
drive open.

What software did you use to write to the CD? Packet writing software?
If so that needs to be installed on the other system.

I just used whatever it is that Windows has when you drag the files to the CD
drive in My Computer. I know I saw a brand logo, but can't remember what it
was.

If you saw a brand logo, then you didn't use Windows to write to your
CDRW. It was probably a packet-writing program that came
pre-installed on your computer. You either need to have the same
software on the other computer, or you need to finalize the CDRW.

Huh? Win98 can read CDRWs just fine as long as the system as a CDRW
installed.

Exactly. "dont use rewriteables for cds that you want to share." as cdrw
is not a standard cdrom drive. Yes it will be soon, very soon.
