CD-Rom gone bad

My cd-rom drive refuses to open when I hit the eject button. I tried
re-inserting the power cord from the motherboard, then I tried another power
cable from the motherboard. Today, when I booted my computer, it opened and
when I was closing it, it got stuck halfway and hasn't opened ever since.
Please help me. I have to burn some data.

Sounds like you need a new drive.

If you use 3rd party packet writing software, some earliier versions locked
the cd writer from opening. This kind of software has its own eject cue
command.
If the CD media in the tray is slightly ajar, symptoms you describe in the
latter part of your post can occur. If the tray mechanism is not damaged,
turn off the PC. Then attempt to manually extend the CD tray.

Hey guess what, after I had failed to meet the deadline that I have for
burning the data on my CD, my CD drive, miraculously after much prayer and
faith has decided to open. I don't need a new drive after all. Thank you
God!
