explain this one boffins.... i have recorded data, audio on to cds
but after the dreaded sp2 update my pc will not recognise these cds. no its
not a software issue, please help

If you think it is due to any specific SP2 update then why don't you
uninstall that very update and recheck your CD-ROM?
I think it will be wise to use a CD Lens Cleaner and recheck.If there is
still problem then get it checked by a vendor/dealer.
