Is it OK to attach scripts to reply posts. I want to attach a handy script.

Stephen

Is it OK to attach WSH scripts to reply posts? I have a script I want to
attach to a reply, but am hesitant because I figure the MS servers might
block it off and/or people might not like it.

But if it is OK I will go ahead.

Sure, but most morons here won't see it. MS want to own people. Therefore they make accessing these groups as hard as possible and feed people through a web page. The web page doesn't show attachments (or HTML formatting - so it's a waste of effort to post technical information as well as it's unreadable).

MS Doesn't make anything hard, they provide a Usenet feed that any
competent/reasonable ISP will also provide to you. Posting scripts, as
scripts, is always a bad idea - post the text of the script a plain
text, not html.

Usenet is not a HTML place.

Do *not* attach a finished script. You can write the script into the body of the email and the person that you are replying and sending it to and he can copy and paste it into Notepad and execute it there . But rather than doing it here in this XP newsgroup why not both of you go to a scripting group on the msnews server and do the exchange there. Scripts can be dangerous and it is not advisable to attach. Might mess up somebody's system if they decide to execute it.

But the best thing that you can do is that both of you go over to email and handle it there

Hi Stephen,

It's best to upload them to the web and provide a link to it.
Or post the code with instruction on how to paste it to a file and
rename it.

Email it to the person in question. BTW, what is the script for?

How can you suggest, if you have a technical bone in your body, that
posting a script in script file format, is not a bad thing, especially
as part of a HTML posted message? Do you not understand how many people
would blindly decode and run it?

Actually, since it's carried on Usenet, and you can directly connect
using a Usenet client pull from MS, it sure looks like Usenet with a web
front end for those that don't know how to setup a Usenet client.

I see that your methods of making excuses for everyone that does
something wrong, so they don't have to be accountable for it, is working
quite well in the World. Just how many crimes have been reduced by
making excuses and not penalizing the guilty?

1. They were all quotes from your first post.
2. It's the whole point of attaching scripts. See 1 regarding your attitude.
3. I don't use usenet at all. I use a private NNTP server called msnews.microsoft.com.

Yep, I see where you got it now. Kind of out of context unless you quote
the part I was replying too. The intent of the "doesn't make anything
hard" is that it's as easy as in any other OS, easier than some, and not
harder than any others.

No attitude, just a fact, sorry if you didn't like the way I stated it,
but you came off (and have since) as a real ass.

That doesn't make sense - DON'T USE USENET, but you use NNTP.... NNTP is
Usenet, it doesn't make a difference were you get the feed from.

At least one MSFT person (John Eddy) has said that MS is using a Usenet
server for this, regardless of how it's being viewed.

John Eddy is wrong. NNTP is a technology. Are you suggesting a server running IIS for a workflow costing thingy is "the web"? No it's just a network app using http.

Are you suggesting that getting articles and participating in the groups

If so, what exactly are you connecting to that provides a NNTP
connection if not a Usenet server?

Sorry David about the above answer. I should have read it more precisely ..Like I said to Kelly my mind is starting to leave me.

I really enjoy these postings ,it breaks the monopoly . I am now and was laughing at the whole thing and I find it very amusing and I am without saying enjoying all of this plus the Neil UK thread. Kurt at least tells it as he sees it and as it is. Must do this more often (being sarcastic a bit here). Thank you for this lesson which I have forgot over the years in groups.

Now if we could get Tick in here then that would make everything so much more enjoyable. LOL

In other words, no you do not like the idea of me posting a script!

:)

Thanks for the reply, Carey.

Thanks for the advice. The script is an advance design script that will
enable Windows to perform functions. It is so advanced it will blow out of
the water anything that winscripter.com windowsitpro.com or
kellys-korner-xp.com has to offer.

It will rock the planet.

Is it really necessary to tell Kelly that you'll blow hers out of the water.

He's a bit of a troublemaker, isn't he. Causing flame wars and insulting people (Kelly of Kelly's Korner) that answer him.

Yes, he is quite the troublemaker. We should get him to post under a
different name, as a kind of warning to the noobs. Something like
"Troublemaking Stephen." You think Neil would approve?

Is it OK to attach scripts to reply posts. I want to attach a handy script.
