I am a new member of this forum so apologies if I have posted in the wrong
place.
I ama new PC owner and trying to create a recovery DVD. When I get to the
relevant part of the wizard I am asked to insert a blank DVD. I haev tried
two brands (Imation and TDK) of DVD+RW but keep getting told that tehy are
not blank (well as they are straight out of teh cellophane I don't see how
they can't be!)
If relevant, the DVD writer is double layer+/-R +/- RW 16x max.
I have been unable to write anything else onto DVD either.
Any help woudl be appreciated

Maybe not the right terminology? There is a set up process in the HP manual
that taks throgh a step by step guide to creating the recovery disk

It's probably the right terminology, but you didn't
give much information on which to base an answer.
So it's HP software which they supply in order to
produce a Recovery DVD disk?
The first thing I would do is find out the exact make
and model of the writer and look for a firmware
update. DVD writers are being updated frequently
at this time, and resolving a lot of compatibility
issues. HP may host this file.
Oh, and when asking a question, you should start a
new thread, rather than piggybacking on another
question.

Do you have DVD burning software installed? XP cannot natively write to
DVDs.

Leave it to HP to give you instructions on how to make a backup DVD and then
not give you the software to do it.
Very similar to when they push computers with HP Imagezone installed (with
known issues with SP2) on a PC with service pack 2 already installed.
