Is Discleaner safe to use?
Is discleaner generally considered safe to use with XP? I've heard reports
that some cleaning software can delete the wrong file etc. and cause errors.
Mainly registry cleaners though.
Should this one be safe to use?

This one clears Recently used files list from registry for applications and
temp files only. I have been using it for months with no reported issues.
Once you run this it will scan the computer and will display a list from
which you choose to decide on which specific items to delete.

two very good disk cleaners (freeware) are CCleaner better know as crap
cleaner (www.ccleaner.com) and Cleancache (www.buttuglysoftware.com)
Cleancahe does, however, need Windows .NET framework to be installed for it
to work.
For a review of CleanCache see my website review at

I use Disk Cleaner and highly recommend it.
I have Disk Cleaner set to run quiet at startup. Runs for 10 seconds or so
and exits. I also like the fact that, after you set it up, it cleans all
the following with one click (and/or automatically at boot). Makes XP's
Disk Cleanup look like a piker. XP's Disk Cleanup will *not* clean
Content.IE5.
Disk Cleaner will Clean:
Temporary Internet Files {Including the contents of the Content.IE5 folder}
Internet Cookies
Internet History
System Temporary Folder
Recent Documents
Run... Dialog List
Find Document List
Find Computer List
URLs in IE Address Bar
URLs in Shell Address Bar
Media Player Recent URLs
WinZip Recent Files
WinZip Extract To Folders
Paint Recent Files
WordPad Recent Files
Cleans Recycle Bin (what else?)
Opera Cache
Opera Cookies
Opera History
Opera Visited links
Opera Download History and Download folder
Firefox Cache
Firefox Cookies
Firefox History
