Accessing A Computer Through A Network
I need to know how to access a computer through a lan network. I took a
crossover cable and connected my two Win XP home machines together. They are
both CONNECTED. The folder on the computer I want to access is shared. The
only problem is that I do not know how to access the folder on the shared
computer through Windows Explorer on the other machine I want to copy the
files onto. Can someone please tell me how to do this?
Thanks,
Matt

In Windows Explorer you can drill down through My Network Places - bottom of
the left pane. Or, a faster way is to click Start/Run
\\NameofOtherComputer ENTER. You will then have two Explorer windows and
you can copy and paste between them.

This is called a simple network.
The machine should have static ips.
Example:
Machine 1
ip- 192.168.1.10
subnet - 255.255.255.0
machine name: mac1
Machine 2
ip- 192.168.1.12
subnet - 255.255.255.0
machine name: mac2
Have similar workgroup entered. For ex: MSHOME.
Once done, as you have shared the folders already. Try accessing Network
places to see the other machine and its shared resources. Or else, in mac2,
select Start ->Run, type \\mac1 and press Ok. This should show shared
resources.
