How do I run SFC when the "disk" for XP is on a recovery partition?

Most (?) OEM installs copy the source content folder i386 to
the hard drive. This is the 1st search point for SFC when no
stand-alone Service Pack has been applied. In that case the
search begins with ServicePackFiles, Then i386 or the source
CD-ROM disk. Check your drive for the presence of i386
NOTE: It's not the one which appears in the path containing
X:\Driver Cache\i386 - that's different content.

Hi,
If the system was preinstalled and uses a recovery partition, it will often
have the original system files in a C:\I386 folder for your use. How to
chnage the sourcepath string in the registry to match this location for SFC
is described here:
