Are the CD-Rs blank? CD-RWs can be erased and re-used but CD-Rs can only be
written to once.

What are you using to write to CDRW and CDR? If you have third party
software installed for the CDRW it will often times turn off XP's imapi
burning of CDs and you must use that software to write to them.

If you're using 3rd party software for both then contact that software's
tech support. Also here are some troubleshooting articles:

They are all blank cd's (brand new ones), I am only using the drag & drop in
XP, so I click on a file, drag & drop into the cd window etc, then when I
have finished, click file & write to cd, but it always comes up with an error
message on CD-R's, but not on CD-RW's.

I dont have any 3rd party software, so I dont know why I cant write to a
CD-R?????

It sounds to me like you DO have third party software on your machine
and you just don't know it. Did you buy this computer with all the
software already on it? If so, I firmly believe that you have InCD
running and you just think you are trying to use XPs native tools.
InCD won't work with CDRs and will give you similiar errors.

Go to Start | Run. Type in "services.msc" without the quotes, hit
enter. Scroll down to the Imapi CD-Burning Com Service. Is it listed
as started?
