I believe that I have a virus on my Dell PC running Win XP. I have tried to
login in regular mode and safe mode. I dont have a problem with formatting
and starting from scratch, however is there any way that I can copy some
documents from my hard drive using DOS, or anything else. I cant login to
windows at all, it will come to my login screen, however when I type my
password in, it just restarts the PC. Any help would be apprecitaed. Thanks.

If you have another computer, hook the drive up to it and transfer the files
that way. Be sure and configure the jumpers to slave before putting it on
the other computer.

And if you have a virus you likely just bought it to your "other" computer!

To the O/P. The first thing should be to run a comprehensive virus scan on
the hard drive you just added to the other computer.

Get a virus checker program, it may be able to "clean" the virus.

If you recently cleaned spwyare see if this link helps:
Unable to Log On To Windows XP After Removing wsaupdater.exe

Also, to clean viruses, start with Trend Micro's Sysclean and McAfee’s
Stinger. Download them and the Sysclean signature file. Delete the
temporary internet files, turn off system restore, boot into safe mode
and run them. Boot back into normal mode and run a full AV scan with
your normal AV program. Then turn system restore back on.

Trend Micro Signature File

McAfee AVert Stinger Virus Removal Tool

Run these programs to check for spyware/malware. After installing
update them, then boot into safe mode and run them. You should update
and run them weekly.
