Want "Open Dialog" to show alpha order and details

I moved from W2K to XP a couple of months ago and generally I like it quite
a bit (much faster to boot up and down, for one thing).

But one thing that drives me crazy is the way the Open Dialog behaves. It
keeps on displaying files and folders in a kind of random, or what it thinks
is MRU, order, with no details. so everytime I use an Open Dialog, I have to
go and change to DETAILS and then sort by name. Is there a way to customize
this ?

TIA,

Olivier

Hi Oliver,

You can change the sort order but not to Details natively in XP.

Some info here:

Incorrect Sort Order in Windows Explorer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q318872

The sorting method is changed in Windows XP. The method that is used for
sorting is described at the following MSDN Web site: StrCmpLogicalW Function

Change the Sort Order Back to W2K Style (Line 107)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Added info:

Sort All by Alphabet - Start Menu and Fav's (Line 196)

Hi Kelly,

Thank you very much for the prompt answer.

I was not able to access the link on the MS site as it requires one to have
an MSN account and password (something that I do not install on any of my
work PCs).

I did download the REG file at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
and installed it (and checked in the registry that it was properly entered)
but it makes no difference. Did I miss something ?

TIA,

Olivier

A restart I believe.

If not, I am afraid accessing Details option is the only way.
