The Local Area Connection in Network Connection/Control Panel can not be
opened. What could be wrong? How can I fix this problem?

Hi,

This issue and behavior can vary on cause. I would suggest starting by
running this combo:

Run Ad-Aware SE, Spybot, CWShredder and HijackThis:

Note: Update the first two programs, once installed, before running.

Thank you, Kelly and Jonybrv, for your responses.
I should have stated what I did immediately before the problem occurred:
I did repair installation of OS using retail version of WXP HE on OEM
version. I resolved the problem by restoring the OEM version WXP HE by
its recovery CDROM.
