With an original XP disc you can format during installation. You will
have a choice of installing over a previous installation or formatting the
drive. I prefer to delete the partion, create a new partion and then format
the new partition. If you have a store bought PC with restore discs, the
restore process will format the drive before installing Windows. I'm not sure
but some may offer a choice of installing over an existing partition. There
will be a warning stating that all data will be lost ask you if you want to
procede. Just make sure you back up all your data, email, etc. before
formatting.
