Hi, jcop69.

The official instructions for a Repair Install (also known as an in-place
upgrade) are in Knowledge Base article 315341.

To do a Clean Install, just boot from the WinXP CD-ROM and follow the
instructions. Be sure to NOT tell it to Upgrade from some earlier Windows
version, and be sure to put the new installation into a separate volume
(primary partition or logical drive in an extended partition) from any
existing Windows installation.

1) How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP

2) Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
