Right click the download link and select Save target as option. Let me know
if it works.

Access Internet Options if you are trying to downloading from a ftp site,
and make sure Use Passive FTP option under Advanced tab is checked.

It is a good omen that it got rid of all those. Try not to re-install them. You are looking at spyware and who knows what else. The Trojan should have given you a hint on all of those

Seems like it requires a reinstall. Before trying that, perform this
procedure once:
Access Internet Options, Click Advanced tab, click Restore Defaults button,
uncheck Enable third-party browser extension, click Ok. Close any IE window
and open again.

To reinstall IE:

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFAQ.htm#Reinstall

check the section "Reinstall or Repair IE / OE in Windows XP"

Hi All,

In addition:

Go to Admin Tools/Services and scroll down to Windows Installer and make
sure it is started.

Added suggestions and checkpoints:

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and see what is listed under the key below: Many
have claimed that the culprit is listed there.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions

Go to IE/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Uncheck Enable third-party browser
extensions.

If you using any third party download manager, disable or uninstall. If you
are using a Firewall program, check the settings. (Tiny is known for this).
If you using an "Ad" filter program disable it and see if downloads work.

Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types/[File Type in
Question]/Advanced. Put a check in the box that reads: Confirm open after
download.

Clean/clear out your Temp/TIF/cache files.
Temp Files: IE/Tools/Internet Options/Delete Temporary Internet Files
Temp Files: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp

Start/Run/CMD. Type this command: REGSVR32 URLMON.DLL. Ok/Reboot. Then go
to: IE/Tools/Internet Options/Programs/Reset Web Settings.

Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Connections Tab Click on LAN
Settings/Uncheck the Automatically detect settings Make sure no other
settings on this screen are enabled.

Go to Tools/Internet Options/Connections/Lan Settings in IE6 and you
will have a checkmark under "Proxy Server" if you are using one.

If it is an application download, see if the EXE is already listed here:
HKEY CLASSES ROOT\Applications

EXE Fix for Windows XP - Line 12 (Restores EXE association)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Restore lnk association: (Line 12) Link File Fix for Windows XP
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedits: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Re-install IE - Go to Start/Run, and type :
"rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\inf\ie.inf"

Good luck and keep us all posted.
