Number of files?

when i used win98 i had about 40,000 files on a 6 gig disk
now when i use xp i have about 140,000 files on a 60 gig disk

my surfing habits havent changed that much

does xp always use that many more files?

Yes. Windows XP is a huge operating system. But your observation is not
really relevant unless you have the same exact software installed on both
systems.

winXPSP2 home laptop here shows a total of 22,800 files
\Windows 9800 files 1.61Gb
\Doc&Set 9000 239Mb
\Programs 3000 550Mb
\sVolume(7d) 1000 257Mb
