I am new to newsgroups and would appreciate some kind soul explaining what
the symbols to the left of the posts mean and how to use them. I assume the
paper clip means there is an attachment but just what does clicking on it
do?
Also, why do some listings show up in red type? Would like to understand
instead of floundering. TIA Stan

Ask the help file, they are all there. Search on Icons.

Outlook Express message list icons
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/mail_messlist_icons.mspx

This is the same thing you'd see if you'd...
Open OE | Click Help | Click Contents and Index | Click Index tab |
Type: sym | Which highlights: symbols in the message
list | And click Display button

Hope this helps. Let us know.
