Hi

I have backed up my system using Windows XP Back up utility, and am using
advanced restore to restore slected files and settings that I need, rather
than install the whole lot But I can't find where my email settings . Does
anyone know in which folder of the backup file they will be located in??

Thanks in advance for any help

Their location depends
a) On the Email client you used (Outlook? Outlook Express? Other?)
b) If you moved them from their default location.

Thanks for reply

When I peformed backup I chose the setting to save all settings and
documents for all users on the computer. I assumed this would save all the
email settings on the computer. There were 3 separate email accounts , 2 in
Outlook Express and 1 in Outlook. Starting to worry that the Backup utility
in XP did not back up email settings!

Did you use NTBackup or Files and Settings Transfer tool ? FAST
would capture the email profiles and be able to replicate them to a
new XP instance or a "Clean Install". If you used NTBackup then
the storage folders are preserved, but not the actual account setups.
I can't say that as an absolute fact - because I don't use NTBackup
for that purpose.

Look for .pst files (Outlook) and for .dbx files (Outlook Express)
deep in your profile folder. I recommend that you restore your
profile folder to a different location, then extract these files and
put them where they belong.

To take the worry out of any backup process, one always tests
it immediately after configuring it, rather than waiting until there
is a need for a restoration.
