Is there any way of comparing two folders and identifying (or selecting)
only the files which appear in both folders?

TIA

Many ways to do this. Personally, I use ViceVersa Plus for this task.

Not in native Windows, but there's a terrific third-party utility,
CSDiff. It's free.

Get your XP CD and install Windows Support Tools.
<CDDriveLetter>:\SUPPORT\TOOLS\SETUP.EXE

Then type windiff in Start Run (you may need to reboot before Start Run can
find it).
