I need to do the same thing but I don't have any of the software. Is there a
way to do a system restore back to 11/28/03 when I know it was clean? If not
what can I do to get my system clean and running smooth again? My A/: wont
work so I can't make a backup.Still trying to solve that problem too. Any
help would be great Thanx

Sierra--

Get in the habit of using sfc. Use this and it doesn't require a CD.

How to Run SFC appropriate to your service pack and without CD
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

The Win File Protection Feature in XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/Q222/1/93.ASP&NoWebContent=1

Also of course get a good defragger like Perfect Disk or Diskeeper/trim
processes/cut services you don't n eed on at services.msc in run box/scan
for spyware often/turn off indexing in XP search/turn off Windows Messaging
service at services which has nothing to do with the MSN messaging or IM
everyone seems addicted to like Tivo, Cell Phones and SUVs.

Best,

Chad Harris

Thanx Chad-
The newslwtter was helpfull till I tryed it. I am completely pc dumb so
I'll explain waht it did. After trying to run it asked for the Cd I turned of
hide and tryed again. Still wanted the Cd. i went looking around and found
the i389 file in the service pack folder. So I'm still trying to understand
the newsletter enough to redirect my pc to that location. In the window32
folder I found a reinstall backup folder I'm not sure if this would do any
good or make more problems.Any thoughts? I also don't know if the i389 folder
was done with orginal install or from sp2. i tryed to to a system restore to
may5 my furtherest back point but was unsucessfull. I'm running xp pro with
sp2 so any help on how to do a real good cleaning with no cd's would help.
Also if i follow the link in the newsletter to fix my dll free will that help
me to run sfc? Thank you Sierra
