I recently purchased a new HP laptop which has XP SP2 installed. Everything
works great with it, however some software which I use from the Middle East
uses the CD Cops protection system. The software will not run on this
machine due to SP2 (it runs on my home system where I have not instaleld SP2).

Is there any way to get this and other such software packages which I have
purchased to run on my new laptop??

Thanks,

Malke

You need to contact the makers of the software for upgrades, patches,
and/or workarounds. The problem is due to the version of the protection
system they're using. Just another example of the "joys" of copy
protection.

Thank you for the reply,
They released a new version, however it too does not work - it seems that
they know that there is an issue with CD Cops and SP2, however I suspect that
since most people over there know of this, they do not upgrade to SP2!

Is there nothing else which can be done to remedy this situation?

Thank,
Saleem

Sure. Use different software. If you keep buying software from people
who insist on using broken copy protection or do sloppy coding, then
there is no incentive for them to fix their products. If I had to make
a choice between keeping my computer secure by applying the most
current updates to the operating system (Service Pack 2) or using some
broken software, I know what I'd do. But it's your computer - you have
to make your own choice.

Unfortunately, there is no other software I can use - the package in question
is one which allows me to conduct research into my field of work (religious
minister) and there is only one company who makes this software.

Thanks for your assistance and help.
