Ghost 9 DVD Image Problem

Hello all. This is my first post - hope I'm in the correct area to
discuss Norton Ghost version 9. I recently purchased the program to
perform an image backup to DVD.

Unfortunately, my first try was unsuccessful. After approximately 6
hours and 7 DVD-RW discs, Norton Ghost promted me to load the first DVD
backup of the set. (I believe it had finished the copy to DVD-RW and it
was starting the verification process) The program could not identify
the first DVD in the backup set. I even tried using all 7 DVD backup
discs and each time Norton Ghost said it was the incorrect DVD.
Therefore, I had to cancel the Backup process causing it to fail with
an error EA390007.

The Norton Ghost (version 9.0.1.3874) options I used were:
1. Back Up Drive (C: drive 55.8gb, NTFS File System, Used 31.3, Free
24.5)
2. Store backup to DVD-RW (Toshiba SD-R6112 Revision 1030)
(Media - Pioneer DVD-RW 1-2x
DVS-RW47CF)
3. Selected - No Compression
4. Selected - Verify Backup Image File After Creation

Everthing seemed to be going smooth up until the verification process,
at which time I had to cancel the process because Norton Ghost was
unable to identify the first DVD backup set.

After I cancelled the process, I tried to use the Backup Image Browser
to check the itegrity of the backup image. This process kept asking
for various DVD image sets over and over and over again. Did I say
over and over again for image set requests, well after an hour or so, I
aborted this process. I didn't know how long it would take to verify my
backup image or even if it would of verified the backup successfully.

Has anyone encountered this problem during the image backup or the
repeated requests for image sets using the Backup Image Browser?
Does anyone have any suggestions?

At this point, I'm not sure I trust Norton Ghost image backup to DVD.

I've used Plextor's CDRESQ software on other Windows systems backing up
to CD and never had any issues with Image Backups AND Restores. I was
hoping this would be the case with Norton Ghost 9, but apparently there
are still software issues to be resolved with this version.

Thanks in advance for all responses!

GM

This really isn't the correct forum for discussing Norton's products,
but FWIW I could never get an early version of Ghost to backup to
CD-R, despite their claims that it would.....
Best thing to do IMO is to create spanned images and then burn them
to DVD from within windows with your favourite burning program , I like
and use Nero.

Believe this is similar to most backup routines using multiple media. It
needs to indicate on the first media, the number of media used for the
entire backup process. One glitch in the media accounting process, and the
whole backup is no good.

Symantec Technical Support:

You may want to consider an external USB 2 or Firewire hard drive. Much
faster than using DVDs {what you imaged to 7 DVD-RW should take less than 25
minutes with an external drive}.

Likely not your problem, but the version of Ghost 9 I have is: 9.0.2.3981.
Have you ever run Live Update for your Ghost?
