DVD Burner not recognized in Hardware List

I have two DVD drives - one DVD r/w - one DVD ROM. Only the DVD ROM operates
and shows up in the device hardware listing. When I reboot, the DVR R/W will
show up for awhile, then will eventually cease to be recognized. All
connections are secure. Windows XP, SP2. Any ideas?

Thanks

If it does not show up in device manager, it may not be detected at BIOS
level too.

Follow the normal check list, see if the LED in the drive lits up for a
second or two when the system starts. This indicates a sucessful POST test on
the drive.

If LED is continously lit or does not glow at all, you need to check the
data and power cables again. Have the jumper on DVD-R/RW set to cable select.

Maybe its important to note if you use "CS"/cable select, and you have
another device on the same ribbon cable, you have to set that device to
"CS"/cable select as well...

You cannot mix the old standard master/slave jumper settings, and "CS" on
the same ide ribbon cable.
