Hi again, the error messages are:

InPageError P1: c000009c P2: 00000003

and the files mentioned are from the temp file in my local settings:

\Temp\WER92f6.dir00\explorer.exe.mdmp

and in the same folder appcompat.txt

I'd run chkdsk if I could, but with a blank desktop I don't know how to run
any program! Help!

David, you posted as a new message instead of a reply to the original
thread, so we don't know what you are talking about.

Hi David,

Have no idea what you are following up to nor from; however, this commonly
has to do with a refresh problem that causes Windows to crash and reset
explorer.exe. Depending on what the exact symptoms are, run lines 164
and/or 371: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Added info per 164:

This generally has to do with display drivers. If you have recently done so
or ran the MS updates to do so, try a rollback via the Device Manager. If
this is not the case, use Ctrl/Alt/Delete and end process on Explorer.exe if
it is listed and either way, then go to File/New Task (Run) and type in:
Explorer.exe.

Explorer.exe repeatedly quits unexpectedly in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=883791

Added info and help:

Taskbar Repair Tool Plus!
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm

Tip/Workaround:

Control/Alt/Delete - When the Windows Task Manager dialog box appears,
select the File menu and then New Task (Run). When the Create New Task
dialog box appears, type in Explorer and press the OK button. Windows
Explorer should restart complete with the Taskbar and Start button.
