Backing up stuff whilst in Safe Mode?

My computer won't boot, but I can get it into safe mode. System Restore
doesn't seem to work either....joy.
It's a couple of weeks since I did a full backup, so before
restoring/reinstalling or whatever else might be necessary, I'd like to back
up my work.

In safe mode, only the C and A drives are operative. Is there any way,
while in safe mode, to either:
1. Get my cd writer to work; or
2. Get usb functionality, so I can plug in my usb hard drive to back it all
up

Thanks

Wouldn't you rather try to fix it?

The purpose of safe mode is to only load with minimal drivers to allow
troubleshooting however, I've just booted one of my machines into safe mode
and I can see both the cd and the usb stick.

I'm assuming that you have plugged your usb stick in whilst in safe mode and
it is not showing? Whilst in safe mode try right clicking my computer |
Click manage | click disk management and see if your usb device is showing in
there without a drive letter assigned.

What is the problem you are having with your pc?

Here are some possible solutions:

1. Copy the files to a USB thumb drive that works in Safe mode, such
as the Lexar JumpDrive or SanDisk Cruzer.

2. Boot in "Safe mode with networking" and copy the files to another
computer on a local area network.

3. Take the hard disk out of the computer, mount it in another
computer temporarily, and copy the files.

4. Make a BartPE CD on another computer, boot your computer from the
CD, and copy the files to a CD writer, USB hard disk, or USB thumb
drive. See http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder
