Windows can't find file, etc.

This is driving me crazy(er)! Have never had these problems before and have
made no modifications to my computer. I keep getting this "Windows can't find
file(or host file)..." pop-up, intermittently, when I try to open jpeg photo
files. It, also, happened today when I was trying to send MP3 music files to
my MP3 player. I eventually did it but it took a lot of moving the files to
new folders, etc.
Now, I'm a senior blonde but fairly adept at using photo programs, etc., and
I've been burning music and downloading from my own CD collection so it's not
like I haven't done these procedures before. Would really appreciate some
solutions for this. Thank you.

intermittently ?

Can we have the exact error message ? The error message should be referring
to any file name which the program does not find.

This is probably because of your file associations, i.e. tells the OS what to
do with a .jpg file vs. a .mpg file.

Presumably your having trouble w/ all the same file types, such as .jpg
works but .jpeg doesn't?

Some installed software probably said it was the "handler" but is either now
gone or isn't setup correctly.

You can "right-click" on a file your having trouble with....select
"properties"...then select "Opens With"....then select the program you want
to open it with, like
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

Hi,
Well, I probably used the wrong word but it happens frequently. As for the
file name; when it starts to happen it happens with every single file I try
to open. Right now it seems to be ok but when it occurs again - then what?

Thank you for your reply. It has settled down for now as it did yesterday
but will probably recur. It was happenening whether the file was .gif,
..jpg,.jpeg, a Word Document or a music file.It wouldn't work when I opted for
"Open with..." either.
If worse comes to worse I will save everything again and reload WindowsXP
and start from scratch . I do appreciate your efforts. Thank you.
