Installing on CompactFlash with EWF but running FBA on harddisk

1) The FBA process takes very long when running on the CompactFlash --
Can I expect a significant improvement if I run FBA on a harddisk, then
copy the harddisk contents to the Flash afterwards?

2) My current setup is HDD [Primary Master] and Flash [Primary Slave].
If the run-time is setup to run on rdisk(1)partition(1) [Primary
Slave], will FBA run into problems if I run it on the harddisk (which
is Primary Master)? Or do I need to switch the harddisk to Primary
Slave before running FBA?

3) I want to run EWF in RAM REG mode, and I've read that FBA creates a
temp partition for EWF. Are there any potential problems (or anything
I should be careful about) when running FBA on the harddisk?

Thanks for the help

1) How long is a long time? I've never run FBA on the CF, but always on the
HD. It takes about 30 minutes on our particular combination of hardware.

2) I don't do the switch. Just don't have the CF and HD connected at the
same time.

3) If you follow the RAM REG instructions, there shouldn't be any problems.

Yes you can. Also running FBA on CF is ill advised since CF has very limited write count to same cell, and it can be easily damaged
during the FBA.

As long as you choose disk in BIOS which will be used for boot you will be fine.
But rembember that you must delete all entries from HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices before tranfering image to CF if you wish to keep
your HDD in computer when you boot from CF.

When booted from CF PnP will pick up difference and add new entries in MountedDevices so that C: become partition on flash instead
of one that you used for FBA on HDD.

Use reg ram ewf mode to avoid problems with hidden partition.
