message bubbles

Whenever I move my mouse over a dropdown list windows message bubble often
gets in the way and hides the items I'm looking for. Is there a way to
disable the windows message bubbles.

Quickest and easiest way: download and install PowerToys for Windows XP
(free from Microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx)

The one you want is called Tweak UI. Disable the balloon tips by going to
Taskbar and Start menu. Uncheck the first box (Enable balloon tips).

Use this reg hack

H_K_C_U\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
Create a new DWord : EnableBalloonTips
leave the value as 0
