i was browsing the internet and listening to windows media player (AIM was
also running) and my computer suddenly lost power, but was able to
instantaneously restart to where i was working before. within a minute, it
restarted completely. i noticed that the "dsl" light on my modem was blinking
red at the moment this happened. also, my other computer, connected through a
wireless network, suffered the same exact ills and the exact same moment.
what's going on here? is this a network problem? or could this be a weird
virus? microsoft antispyware hasn't found any problems yet, and mcafee
antivirus is running now. zonealarm firewall was active at the time of the
incident.

Could be a power surge.
As you are running McAfee right now, lets wait for the result.

Looks like a power failure caused it

yeah, i spoke with the head of my community complex, and he affirmed that
construction work around the neighborhood did indeed cause a brief power
outage. thanks for the help you guys.
