Ok, I had a busted up harddrive and I recovered the WINDOWS, Program Files,
and Documents and Settings folders as well as the boot.ini folder using
another computer. I threw the harddrive with the copied information into the
original computer but it says WINDOWS is missing. What do i need to do to
make it boot using the WINDOWS that is on there? Thanks

DWP,

Did you use software like Ghost to capture the hard drive image ? If you had
copied them normally as you do for files, it is not possible to use it to
boot Windows. copy will place the system/boot files in immediatle available
space on the hard drive which may not be the exact location where your BIOS
will look for the boot files.

Reinstall Windows again to the new HDD using Windows XP installation CD-ROM
and copy the user files and settings available under Documents and Settings\
User profile folder that you have on the back up HDD.

can I install XP Pro SP2 to the second/new HDD on my Win2000 system without
screwing up that operating system? I dont want the install to default to the
C:/ Drive but to the D:/ drive.

Hi DWP,

Boot the system with the drive installed and the WinXP CD. Start the
installer, see if it detects the existing installation and offers to repair
it.

Yes, you can.

You need to choose the partition availble at the second HDD as the location
during installation.

Please read carefully the instructions listed at:
