Slow Home Networking

I see lots of references to this problem, but haven't been able to locate a
scenario.

I run 3 computers at home linked to a d-link wireless router and separate
modem which is connected to broadband. Two connect wirelessly and one via a
cable. All 3 run Win XP pro SP2 with windows firewall switched off. All have
Norton Internet security on and configured to allow access to the workgroup
drive. All are regularly swept for viruses/spyware.

Each connects to the internet perfectly - high speeds - click on a
connection and the page appears almost instantenously.

However when I try to browse the network drives (eg I type \\Study into the
comand line and get the shared drives) it takes 30 secs-1 minute to show the
3 or so files and 30 secs - 1 minute on each subsequent double click of a
folder.

I've tried setting up the network manually, using the XP network setup tools
via a flash drive, using the XP wireless network setup tools, scouring the
web etc etc all to no avail. It seems that there is a general problem here as
lots of people seem to mention this, but I can't seem to find a solution that
works anywhere

Any help would be gratefully received

Many thanks, Dominic
