Quick Launch Buttons - Sort Order

If I arrange the order of the buttons in my quick launch area, where in the
system can I find that order, so I can save it? Sometimes when my desktop
restarts, the quick launch buttons are scrambled.

What you want to do is to force the icons to appear in a certain order of
your choice.
For example let's say you want to have shortcuts to
Control Panel
Internet Explorer
Outlook Express
MS Word
Drive Image
Yahoo
Google
AdAware
Spybot
and you want to have them appear in that order.
You will want to leave room to add more in between these in the future so
change the names of the shortcuts -- not the targets -- to something similar
to the following:
11c-Control Panel
11f-Internet Explorer
11i-Outlook Express
11l-MS Word
11o-Drive Image
11r-Yahoo
11u-Google
12c-AdAware
12f-Spybot
All you have done is create a sort order.
Best place to do the actual change is (in XP) C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR
NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch.
Here you can change easily, then sort and see results immediately.

I have been using this type configuration for several years and it has never
failed.

Enjoy,

Bob

I don't know why the previous copy of this message was removed.
It went through to the Help and Support group OK and it was sent as a Reply
to the group -- not as a private reply.

It wasn't removed, it's right there on the server. Perhaps you have to
change your viewer settings?

Thanks, Wes. Tha's where the shortcuts are stored, yes. But how are their
arrangement orders remembered, when the system is rebooted?

Bob,

Thanks, but what I'm looking for is how the system stores the arrangement order?
Obviously it does store the order somewhere, as usually when I restart, the
shortcuts are arranged in the order I put them. It's just when Explorer.exe
crashes that the shortcuts get scrambled.

Bob I,

It isn't showing in this group but it showed as removed and that is why I
made the statement.
The removed message is gone but my first posting still doesn't show.
It was also posted to the Help and Support group and it showed up there
which caused me to
repost here only to this group with the statement.
I am going to do a reset of the group and see if it appears.
Might have been a "glitch" since if you are seeing it then I shouldn't have
seen the "removed" message.
Will be back shortly with an update.

Bob I,

It was a glitch.
After a reset of the group it came up as you stated.

No change in OE was made other than the reset.

Lou,

Try renaming as suggested then go to task manager
and end the explorer.exe process and that will simulate a crash.
See if they come back in the desired order.
I "always" get the desired order even after a crash.

Beats me.

See this first...
[[If you see a Search Assistant Toolbar in the Taskbar, it might be due to a
malware named BlazeFind. Quick Launch bar may be missing on every reboot or
the Quick Launch sort order may not be maintained.]]

One of the things that Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! will do is...
Save Quick Launch Sort Order

Have a look at this...
