I want to disable as many services as possible within XP. Can anyone provide
advice what services can safely disabled. What would the minimal set of
service that I can runn with?

The PC I am using will not be connected to a network, It will have a CD
drive an IrDA interface and keyboard/mouse connected over USB.

Does this actually disable the servies? Or does it remove the Microsoft
services from being displayed?

Do not use msconfig to disable services, use services.msc.

[[The reason is because with msconfig and Hardware Profiles, you can disable
services that may be vital to boot your system. With the management console
(services.msc) you cannot. Also, msconfig, while unchecking the box, is
disabling the service.

The "Disable All" button also scares me. It should not even be there as no
reason exists to justify disabling "everything."]]
Why can't I use msconfig to change my services?

This is just the tip of the iceberg; go to control panel - System - Advanced -
Performance click Settings and uncheck the first ten boxes.

Hi Tom.

Yeah, I know. But I always try to provide a link to anything that I quote.
And I happened to provide everything that was relevant in the link in my
first post.

Black Viper has a new page, but it doesn't seem to be working correctly yet.
Some of the links return a...
