Any caveats regarding installation of a Compaq monitor driver in a Dell
Computer other than backing up my drives? I keep an image of all partitions
on an external HD. My OS is XP Home.

A monitor is a monitor regardless of brand....

You can run the Compaq without installing its drivers.

What made you think you had to do backups of your HDDs prior to a new
monitor?
