Problems installing hardwareless driver

Hallo,
I've written a couple of drivers: one it's needed to handle a pci board,
and the other one is a kind of hardware abstracter which hides the
different boards peculiarities to the user mode sw.
I imported the two drivers inf in a couple of components, and added them
to my configuration, but it seems to be a problem: the board driver it's
installed, while the hardwareless one it isn't.

The files are copied, the .sys and the .inf are placed in the right
places, but under the device manager there is no sign of the device.
I suppos that the problem is that the PnP manager does not detect the
hardwareless driver, so it does not create the appropriate entries ?

What are the steps to install a software-only driver?

Thank you,

Marco Dondero

Marco,

You may be able to do it with the Devcon utility:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;311272

You can also try:
rundll32 syssetup,SetupInfObjectInstallAction DefaultInstall 128 c:\windows\inf\myinf.inf

Brad
