*** Keyboard Input Problems after upgrading from XP Home to Pro **

Hello All,

After upgrading from XP Home to XP Pro, I started to get problems with
inputting chars using my keyboard. SP2 was installed and re-installed (using
the 'developer' version of SP2 install image)

The problem doesn't affect the all keys: e.g., '4' on the keybd (not numpad)
displays '$', and '6' will display '^' (i.e., as if I was holding down
SHIFT). Periodically, a dialog also box pops up: mentioning about
FilterKeys, thinking I'm messing with the SHIFT key. I have gone into
'Accessibility Options' to see - FilterKeys was not even turned on

The keyboard that I used is brand new, and, I have swapped it with a couple
of other keyboards functioning fine on other XP Home machines. These other
keyboards also give me the same problem with char input. I'm pretty sure
that it is not a matter of cleaning crap out of the keys.

Another related problem (ie, started to happen after Home to Pro upgrade) is
that when using the mouse in Windows Explorer, if I click i the 'container
pane' (or wahtever its called - the pane beside the folder pane) I select one
file but it highlights ALL files above and including the one I selected (just
like I multi selected)

I know of others, like me, in IT/software dev who have this problem but none
so far have a solution...

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Thanks in advance,

Ken

From the same guy who posted this question - additional info:

- The OS is on a AMD64 platform and I was trying to install to a second
primary partition on the HD
- Have tried other keyboard configurations (US english, etc) in Control Panel
- As a final try, tried re-installing XP (boot from CD). After the 'DOS'
mode the install would get to the Product Key area as usual - BUT I CANT EVEN
ENTER THE PRODUCT KEY BECAUSE I can't enter a '6'

Anyways, I'm stuck...Help!

I'm not much of an expert, but I recently encountered this same annoyance
when I accidentally leaned on my Shift key and invoked Filter Keys.
My Filter and Sticky keys were turned off, but the Shortcut was not!
Go into Accessibility Options and for both Filter and Sticky keys, do the
following:
Click the Settings button.
Uncheck "Use shortcut."
OK - Apply - OK

Hi, after a weekend of testing, I found that the Windows XP SP2 install most
likely caused my problems (I hope). XP SP2 seemed to 'remove' or alter one
or more of my chipset drivers (NVIDIA 3 series). So after installing SP2,
run the driver install again...
