Why suddenly search

Suddenly, without provocation or warning now when I "left click" on a folder
or shortcut the "search results" box comes up instead of opening just the
folder like it always used to do. I have no idea why it started this nonsense
but I would like it to stop. Any suggestions

You did not read my question thouroughly. I believe your solution to be
incorrect. I said and I quote "when I "left click on a folder". When you left
click on a folder you are simply opening it. My computer does not do this
now, it opens up a search box for the folder (or shortcut) that I am simply
trying to open. You need to read, not skim. Does anyone one else have any
suggestions

Everybody on these newsgroups is trying to help each other out. Nobody is paid/employed to answer
posts. There are people present on these groups from all over the planet hence understanding each
other might get confusing at times. I am sure MVP Carey does not deserve the kind of rude words that
you are spewing.

As for the solution, here it is: Type the following at start/run and press enter:

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

You are executing the default verb, not necessarily opening it.

Easy and quick fix: Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /i shell32

As per the why, this comes about after making changes via File Types and a
few others.

Maybe he is busy and trying to do the best he has with his time allotted.
That said, this question has been asked so many times, it should be listed
as a headliner. The time it took you to make this remark would have been
less using search to find your answer.

Hi Kelly,
I seemed to be having this same problem...search results appearing at log in
to windows and used your suggestion of start/run regsvr32 /i shell32. It
worked but now when I I log on to windows xp (sp2) another folder appears
(MSN shortcut). Do you know what is going on here?
