Hi, when I clicked "Start", then clicked "Turn Off My Computer" the "Turn
Off" button (between Stand By & Restart" had a shield on the top right
corner. When I clicked "Turn Off" it installed an one update.

Is this from Microsoft? ...or has spoof made me paranoid?

Has my computer been hijacked? Thank you.

That shield is Microsoft's way of alerting you to reboot your
computer after an update was installed that required a reboot.
It's a normal symbol that goes away after rebooting.

This option was introduced with Service Pack 2. If you have
enabled Automtic Updates and an update has been downloaded but
not installed, you will see this option when you go to shut down
your computer. Take a look here for more info:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/sp2maint.mspx#EGAA

Scroll down to "Install updates at shutdown". Quoting from the
article:

"A new Install updates and shutdown option to the Shut Down
Windows and Turn Off Computer dialog boxes. When updates have
been downloaded and are ready to install, Windows will show the
new option as the default choice and mark it with the Windows
Security shield that indicates that this is a security
recommendation. You can control whether this installation option
is the default or is shown by configuring the appropriate
registry setting".
