"Help" doesn't work

I'm having a serious problem here and I'm having a tough time searching for
answers due to the nature of the problem. I'm running Windows XP SP2, and
for the past several weeks I have been unable to use "help" in any
applications. when I click on "help" on the menu or press F1, usually
nothing happens. This is the case with any application, whether an MS
product or other, and whether it is newly installed or software that existed
before the problem began. The only application that responds at all is MS
Money, which pops up a vague error message that says it can't load help and
that I have to reinstall Money. But given that help doesn't work with any
new software I install, I"m guessing that the problem is within XP and that
reinstalling applications won't fix anything.

Please help my help!

If the above repair does not work:

Go to Start > Run and type in: helpctr -regserver

To reinstall Help and Support:

Go to C:\Windows\inf\pchealth.inf.
Right-click and choose install. Have your Windows XP CD available.

Note: The folder is hidden by default. Go to Start > Run and type in:
control folders. View: Show hidden files and folders and uncheck
"Hide extensions for known file types".

Have you used any "one click" registry/windows cleaners lately?? Some of
these will remove "help" files, treating them as not needed because a
setting was not ticked to leave them alone..........

Something to ponder.........

Nick,

See if these commands help, from Start/Run:

regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx
regsvr32 itss
regsvr32 jscript
