when I press the eject button there is a considerable pause and a light that
doesn't go off for about 10 seconds which is long. I think there is something
influencing it but I scanned with spyware doctor and didn't find anything.
Can anyone help?

1. Try the drive in another machine to see if it misbehaves.
2. Try a different drive in your original machine.

That way you will be able to determine if the problem is software or
hardware. If hardware, just replace the drive; cd-rom drives are cheap.

Possibly this is a cdr/cdrw, and the udf filesystem is dismounting?
