Hmmm.... but there is a Compaq website. I wonder if the Compaq company
still exists but is owned by HP???
This is similar to my old Ma Bell Company, Pacific NW Bell after
divestiture, US West owned PNB but there was still a PNB.
Who knows what those lawyer types do in the back room???

Here is the URL that takes you to the Compaq site
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/. Notice the HP in the URL!

Didn't get the OP of this thread, but the last Compaq laptop I purchased
about 9 months ago came with restore disks and a proper XP Home with SP1a
CD.
I was shocked and pleasantly surprised.
These post's like the OP's are so stupid and emotionally driven unintended;
they become essentially the same as troll posts. I personally wouldn't buy
a Compaq desktop, but I can see how they would be perfectly suited for the
majority of my non-computer literate aquientiences.
I also personally see very little problem feedback weighted toward Compaq,
or HP it's parent company. I see far more posts regarding problems with Dell
computers as it should be since it is the leading computer manufacturer at
the moment.
Most computer problems are self inflected and would probably be best
addressed by using the restore media supplied with the system.
If important data is in jeopardy, then extraordinary steps have to be
implemented.

Well, it's like buying a car that's a lemon. Of course you're gonna bitch
about it although, that was one funny story. Who hasn't talked to "Joe" in
Bangalore and had a similar experience? Just try talking to Joe for 8 hours
trying to get a Linksys wireless router to connect to their wireless print
server. After tons of calls, you finally get someone that admits that they
actually don't work together.

Doesn't really matter since its still a box slopped together in Taiwan
with an American Company name/logo stamped on it and marketed as if it
were a true blue American creation.
